Lena Dunham, Rihanna, Drew Barrymore - Here are the best A-list reactions to the Midterms
If you thought Hillary’s celebrity love-fest back in the 2016 presidential election race was quite something, then the A-list reactions to the midterm results won’t particularly surprise you. In both the run up to and the results aftermath, celebs were galvanising voters, speaking out against Donald Trump and sharing their “I Voted” stickers on the 'gram.
And they can be influential, Taylor Swift's Insta post back in October, endorsing two Democrat candidates and encouraging her 112 million followers to excercise their democratic right, saw more than 169,000 new voter registrations just a mere 48 hours after the singer's original post. And although it wasn't to be on the night, when her choice of candidate lost out to Marsha Blackburn and Twitter users swiftly ridiculed the 28-year-old star, the Hollywood lot didn't let the haters dissuade them from raising their voices above the din.
Reams of A-listers came out in force to celebrate Tuesday night’s results, which saw the Democrats secure control of the House of Representatives with 218 seats. Amongst the blue hues, a number of significant new inroads were made by women in American politics. With over 100 now heading off to Washington, a record number for the House. These included the very first Muslim women to serve in congress, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota. Maggie Gyllenhaal tweeted in support of these new faces: "So far 100 women elected to Congress. For the first time."
A number of other stars took to Social media to share their gleeful reactions to the results. Here’s the best of the bunch:
