Lee Jung-Jae not attending the 79th Golden Globe Awards

6 Jan - South Korean actor Lee Jung-Jae recently revealed that he will not be attending Hollywood's Golden Globe Awards despite his nomination in the Best Actor in a Television Series category.

As reported on Hankook Ilbo, the news was shared by his agency Artist Company on 5 January, stating, "Lee Jung-Jae is honoured to be nominated in the Best Actor in television series category at the Golden Globes, but has decided not to attend. He recognises that Netflix is not participating, and that we have considered other factors like COVID-19, quarantine protocols and overall situation."

Lee is nominated in the said category for his role in the hit Netflix series, "Squid Game". Co-star O Yeong-Su is also nominated in the Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series category.

On the other hand, "Squid Game" was named one of the contenders for Best Television Series - Drama

The Golden Globes itself is being boycotted by many stars, following last year's controversy concerning the lack of diversity and the alleged corrupted behaviour of the members of the organiser, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).

This year's event would also not be telecast by NBC, though no details were provided as to how the winners will be revealed or where the event will be held.
