Lauren Toyota pens important message to mothers: 'You don’t need permission'

Lauren Toyota is sharing an important lesson for mothers.

On Monday, the former "Much Music" reporter took to Instagram to share a candid video about asking "permission" to have some "me time."

In the clip, the 39-year-old filmed herself in the car. Toyota explained that she asked her husband if she could go to a yoga class before realizing that she doesn't need permission to make time for her physical health.

"This morning I asked for permission to go to yoga," she began. "I haven't been in 14 months."

She added: "Next time I'm just going to say, 'I'm going to yoga. Bye.' Choose your words."

"Here’s a lesson," she captioned the post for her 88,000 followers. "Moms, you don’t need permission."

Toyota's "relatable" message was quickly met with a warm and supportive response from fans and fellow mothers.

"So relatable! Mothers shouldn't have to put themselves on the back burner," a fan commented. "You can't show up as your best self for your family if you don't take time to care for yourself first!"

"You gotta lay that sh— down!" someone else wrote alongside a 100 emoji.

A follower added: "I don’t know why this happens but it does. Thanks for the reminder."

"My friend and I were discussing this recently. Why do we ask for permission to shower instead of just saying, ‘Okay I’m off for a shower now!'" another shared.

"Ugh, I feel this!" someone chimed in.

Earlier this month, Toyota shared another video highlighting the less-than-glamorous realities of motherhood.

In the clip, Toyota breastfed her son by hovering over his car seat on a family road trip.

She paired the video with a caption about embracing the "awkward" moments of parenting.

"Anyone find themselves in this awkward position from time to time?" she wrote to her 88,000 followers. "We’re road tripping down the 101, so I will be hovering over the baby's car seat while the car is in motion with my boobs out, plenty. Thank you very much."

"Weird things moms do," she included as on-screen text.
