Laura Ingraham Apologizes for ‘Mixup’ Involving Ukraine Call Whistleblower Lawyer

Laura Ingraham apologized during her Fox News show, “The Ingraham Angle,” Thursday night, for a “mixup” where she falsely said a lawyer for the Ukraine call whistleblower had represented Senator Chuck Schumer and Hillary Clinton.

“Last night I made a comment about whistleblower lawyer Mark Zaid and saying he previously represented Chuck Schumer and Hillary Clinton. That was incorrect,” she said.

“I was mistaking Mark for another attorney representing the whistleblower named Andrew Bakaj, who just worked for Clinton and Schumer, so it was a different lawyer,” she continued. “I apologize for that mixup.”

Bakaj, it turns out, only interned for the two Democrats in college, according to a series of tweets from Zaid.

He wrote Thursday, before Ingraham’s show, “On @FoxNews last night @IngrahamAngle said of me in my #whistleblower case: ‘His lawyer Mark Zaid who’s represented Schumer and Hillary by the way.’ To use coined phrase: FAKE NEWS!”

“To be clear, at no time have I ever represented Senator Schumer or Secretary Clinton. Ever. Never,” he continued. “No doubt @IngrahamAngle’s folks completely confused & conflated me w/my co-counsel @AndrewBakaj. Andrew – when he was 19/20 & in college – interned w/ Senators Schumer & Clinton. Almost 20 years ago.”

When reached for further comment regarding Ingraham’s apology, Zaid told TheWrap: “That apology is fine. It’s not a productive use of my time to further address Fox News errors. Our priority is to protect the whistleblower.”

“It’s disappointing that Fox News can’t grasp or is unwilling to admit that Andrew didn’t ‘work’ for Senators Schumer or Clinton. He was a college intern. The difference is like night and day,” he added.

Bakaj did not immediately respond to request for comment.
