Is There a New ‘Last Week Tonight With John Oliver’ Airing This Week?

Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, John Oliver has been broadcasting his weekly “Last Week Tonight” from home in a white-backgrounded — and very sassy — “blank void” that looks very different from his usual New York City studio.

But, as things have slowly started to get back to normal for late night shows, Oliver has been preparing to say goodbye to his void — something his void has seemed all too happy to reciprocate. But, in Oliver’s final sign-off from his COVID set-up, the void showed his true emotions.

Singing “Empty Chairs at Empty Tables” from the Broadway classic “Les Miserables,” the void bid adieu to Oliver, complete with a little flag that said “F— you John.” Of course, the void couldn’t resist one last joke, deadpanning “Queen Elizabeth had Princess Diana murdered, good night” as Oliver tried to stop him.

And with that, the void has seemingly said its final goodbye. This week, there is a new episode of “Last Week Tonight. Oliver is back in his usual time slot at 11 p.m. EST on HBO, and officially back in his regular Manhattan studio with a brand-new set.

Of course, he’s also hitting the road in the near future. Or at least, his art collection is.

In his final bit of August, Oliver announced that three paintings he’s found throughout the past year, including the infamous one depicting what he called “rat erotica,” will be going on tour this month. In exchange for hosting the insane pieces, each of the five museums that have agreed to do so will receive $10,000 from HBO and another $10,000 will be donated to a food bank in their area.

The works going on tour are a painting Wendy Williams gifted Oliver depicting her about to eat a lamb chop, a still-life of ties painted by Judy Kudlow, the wife of former Trump economic advisor and Fox News talking head Larry Kudlow and, perhaps most importantly, the one and only “Stay Up Late,” a painting by Pennsylvania artist Brian Swords that depicts two anthropomorphized rats uh, doing the deed that Oliver described as “high-quality rat erotica.”
