LASALLE graduate wins Miss Universe Singapore 2017 beauty pageant
A 24-year-old LASALLE graduate was crowned the latest Miss Universe Singapore during the beauty pageant’s grand finals on Wednesday evening (11 October).
Manuela Blanka Bruntraeger beat 19 other contestants to the title, after four different segments that included the swimsuit, evening gown and Q&A. She walked away with a $10,000 cash prize, and other gifts amounting to $50,000. She will also be representing Singapore in the international round on 26 Nov in Las Vegas.
Bruntraeger comes from mixed parentage – her mother is Eurasian while her father is Caucasian – and was also crowned Miss Earth Singapore in 2016.
Meanwhile, the first and second runner-up titles were awarded to pricing analyst Rudihra Ramanathas, 26, and NAFA graduate Emilbiany Nenggal Intong, 18, respectively.
This year’s panel of judges consisted of SPH deputy managing editor Murali Subramaniam, actor Paul Foster, Miss Universe Singapore 2013 Shi Lim, the pageant’s national director Nuraliza Osman, celebrity stylist Keith Png, stand-up comedienne Sharul Channa and image building consultant Marion Nicole Teo. Teo also made it to the semi-finals for the international round back in 1987.
The is the second time that the pageant has been organised by The New Paper in partnership with the Miss Universe Singapore Organisation. Other highlights from the show, which was produced by local fashion industry heavyweight Daniel Boey, included performances by local artistes Gareth Fernandez and Aisyah Aziz.
