La La Land Trailer: Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling's Musical Romance

Damien Chazelle’s anticipated follow-up to his instant-classic debut ‘Whiplash’ has a second trailer, and it’s somehow even more magical than the first.

'La La Land’ is a musical following aspiring actress Mia (Emma Stone), in Los Angeles as she meets and falls for struggling Jazz musician Sebastian (Ryan Gosling).

According to an official synopsis (via Entertainment Weekly) the pair “struggle to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts". They also have some great voices on them.

The trailer above is set to the voice of Stone, singing 'Audition’ - an original track written for the film.

It isn’t only Stone’s singing that impresses in this trailer, the vibrancy, cinematography and tone also strike a unique note making 'La La Land’ stand out from the crowd of upcoming awards season contenders.

The track 'Audition’ includes lyrics that outline the kind of film this is set to be. “She captured a feeling, sky with no ceiling, the sunset inside a frame,” she sings. “Here’s to the ones who dream, foolish as they may seem. Here’s to the hearts that ache, here’s to the mess we make.”

'La La Land’ was also written by Chazelle, who impressed so much with Oscar-contender 'Whiplash’. The film failed to win in the Best Picture category (though there are many who will argue it should have) but did win two technical awards and a Best Supporting Actor prize, which went to JK Simmons.

Simmons returns in 'La La Land’, co-starring alongside Rosemarie DeWitt, John Legend, and Finn Wittrock.

A new poster was also released, aping classic vinyl artwork.

The film is set to be released on 13 January 2017.
