Kurt Russell’s Role In Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.2 Was Chris Pratt’s Idea
After the success of James Gunn’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ in 2014, it’s no surprise fans are drooling over next year’s sequel.
It seems Chris Pratt, the lead of both movies as loveable rogue Star-Lord, was influential in Hollywood legend Kurt Russell’s involvement.
While speaking to Empire, director James Gunn revealed it was actually Pratt’s idea to cast the legendary Russell in the role of his father/giant face planet, Ego.
“He was actually not in my head initially, but one day Chris suggested him, and I would have been really disappointed if he’d said no. Hey, if you have to cast anything, Kurt’s a pretty good way to go.”
So without Pratt’s handy input we might not have seen the ‘Big Trouble in Little China’ actor in Gunn’s sequel.
The ‘Jurassic World’ actor also spoke about the relationship his character will forge with newcomer Ego. Pratt was on hand to reveal how the two characters would co-exist within the film:
“You’re going to see these characters having to endure the realities of being in a family. You’re talking about a guy who’s been longing to know who his father is for a long time. He’ll discover if that person lives up to the expectations he has in his head.”
The dynamic between the two, not least because they’re played by one of today’s biggest stars and one of yesteryear’s most iconic faces, will be interesting to witness on-screen - especially with Russell playing an entire planet.
‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ wowed critics and fans alike with its whimsy, adventurous tone as it scooped $773 million at the worldwide box office the summer before last. The follow-up is arguably one of the most anticipated in the Marvel roster, with Gunn’s first major Hollywood movie proving a huge hit, we can only anticipate the sequel will be of similar quality.
