A self-portrait drawn by the late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, during his short visit to Singapore in 1992, is up for auction next month and could fetch up to US$20,000.

Cobain and the rest of the Nirvana members travelled to Singapore to promote the release of their album, Nevermind. While the band did not perform a concert, the band made pit stops at local haunts around the island. Cobain dropped by recording studio TNT Music Centre at Parklane Shopping Mall, where he drew a caricature of himself with the caption, ‘I don’t know how to play, and I don’t give a hoot!’, on a piece of paper. He signed off as 'Kurdt Kobain Rock Star.'

Cobain gifted the drawing to freelance photographer Jacque Chong who worked with the band during their visit.

So far, a total of five bids have been placed, with the highest bid currently listed at US$20,000. The drawing is currently mounted on board with a white matted cardboard frame, and measures 15 by 12 inches.

Julien’s Auctions, who is responsible for the sale, has broken world records with past sales of Cobain’s memorabilia, including his cardigan worn on MTV Unplugged in New York, which sold for US$334k and the Martin D-18E acoustic-electric guitar, which sold for US$6 million, making it the world’s most expensive guitar sold. The auction will run from June 11 to 13 in Beverly Hills and online.
