"Kun Maupay Man It Panahon" to compete at SGIFF

28 Oct – It was revealed that Charo Santos-Concio's movie, "Kun Maupay Man It Panahon" ("Whether the Weather is Fine") is set to compete at the upcoming 32nd edition of the Singapore International Film Festival.

The news was announced via the film's official social media account, which stated, "In November, Kun Maupay Man It Panahon (Whether the Weather is Fine) is weighing anchor for Southeast Asia as it plays in competition at the 32nd Singapore International Film Festival - SGIFF!"

"In this moving dilemma between staying and leaving, we are left laughing with our eyes wet," the fest's site says. "Catch it on November 26, 9:30 pm and December 1, 8:45 pm (SGT) at the Filmgarde Bugis+!"

It is noted that the film previously won the Cinema e Gioventù Prize from the Concorso Cineasti del presente Junior Jury at Switzerland's Locarno Film Festival. It also premiered in Mexico at the Guanajuato International Film Festival, and at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival in the Contemporary World Cinema section.

Directed by Carlo Francisco Manatad, the film co-stars Daniel Padilla and Rans Rifol, and revolves around the relationship between a mother and son who struggle for survival in the aftermath of the devastating Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in 2013. The film follows their struggles as they deal with destruction, loss and the struggle to find a home after the storm.
