Kuala Terengganu cinema uses CCTV to curb bad behaviours

20 Mar – The long-awaited cinema in the state capital of Terengganu finally began operating last weekend.
Mr. Garuna Murthee, managing director of Lotus Five Star (LFS) Cinemas, was present during the opening of Kuala Terengganu's LFS PB Sentral to purchase the first ticket during the soft launch.
Previously, it was reported that the 11-screen cinema had some strict prerequisites to meet before being allowed to set shop in Kuala Terengganu.
This in turn means the cinema patrons do need to observe the set rules too. While they are not required to sit separately by gender, they still need to be on their best behaviour – there are closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras monitoring their every move, even in the halls.
A rep from LFS confirmed to Cinema Online that there are CCTV cameras installed in each of the cinema hall. The cameras will broadcast live the footage from the halls on a big screen placed at the cinema's lobby.
This will mark the first time for a cinema to do so in order to curb inappropriate behaviours amongst its patrons.

Some of the other rules set by the Kuala Terengganu City Council (MBKT) that the cinema has to adhere to are the last movie to be screened for the day must end before 1am, closure for 'Malam Jumaat' (starting 6pm Thursday until 3pm the next day), closure during Ramadan (6pm to 8pm daily), and closure from 6pm on the eve of Hari Raya Haji and Hari Raya Aidilfitri until 2pm the next day.
It is only the second cinema to be allowed to open in Terengganu, the first being TGV Cinemas Mesra Mall which has been operational since 2005 in the Kemaman district.
LFS PB Sentral opened six of its 11 halls last Saturday, 18 March 2017. The remaining five halls, which will also be installed with CCTV cameras, are still under construction and set to open in April.
