Kris Wu is formally arrested on suspicion of rape
18 Aug – Kris Wu has now been formally arrested on suspicion of rape.
As reported on Mingpao, the news was revealed in a statement made by the prosecutors in Beijing on 16 August, stating that the arrest was made after reviewing the case in accordance with the law.
The former EXO member was detained in late July by the Beijing police, amid allegations of sexual assault made by several women that started with a 19 year-old named Du Meizhu, who accused Kris of assaulting her while she was drunk at his home.
Kris' representative has not released any statement regarding the official arrest.
It is noted that the singer has vehemently denied the allegations against him on Weibo when it first made the news. However, the police later revealed that Kris admitted to having a relationship with Du, though the singer stressed that it was consensual.
The prison sentence for rape in China is between three to ten years.
