Kris Aquino announces engagement to Mel Sarmiento
26 Oct – Kris Aquino recently announced that she is now engaged to former politician Mel Senen Sarmiento.
The actress shared the good news on social media on 24 October with a video of her and a shy Mel awkwardly announcing their engagement, with Kris writing, "We discussed this post and I thought about it carefully... because many of my followers are asking how am I because I have been missing a long time."
Addressing the passing of her brother, former president Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, Kris stated, "Somehow I believe there really was a matchmaker in heaven who must be smiling now- I can almost hear his voice telling me, "Kristina, that's right, respect the fact that Mel wants a quiet life." And finally, "bunso" has learned to obey."
"To my best friend and the man I said yes to spending the rest of my life with, thank you for as Bimb said loving me for me, with no agenda, and for being just an overall good and patient man. It's unreal how much more calm and peaceful I feel now that you're here," she wrote.
Saying that the two met because of her brother, Kris then thanked the late president, saying, "THANK YOU, you must have known how broken I'd be to lose you, so you made sure there was someone who not only helped wipe away my tears, he's made it possible for me to smile and laugh again. It came when I wasn't looking or expecting it- so they were all right in saying in God's perfect time."
"We agreed, what's personal shall remain private so that's all I can share. Except I guess to say as much as I am proud to be an Aquino, I am looking forward to becoming Sarmiento."
It is noted that Kris' fiancé was a vice mayor and then a mayor of Calbayog City from 1992 to 2010, and later served as secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government under Noynoy Aquino.
Kris was previously married to basketball player James Yap before they ended the marriage in 2012. The two are parents to son James Carlos aka Bimby. On the other hand, she is also a mother to son Joshua Aquino from a previous relationship with actor Phillip Salvador.
