Krampus Trailer Promises A Creepy Christmas

We haven’t even made it to Halloween yet, but we’ve already got cause to fear another annual festivity, as Universal and Legendary give us our first look at upcoming Christmas horror comedy, ‘Krampus.’

The second movie from Michael Dougherty, writer-director behind the instant Halloween classic ‘Trick ‘R Treat,’ looks set to make Yuletide every bit as terrifying as All Hallow’s Eve.

Check out the ho-ho-horrifying (sorry) trailer below…

With a cast including Toni Collette, Adam Scott and David Koechner, ‘Krampus’ centres on your typical family celebrating the holiday season in the typical manner - i.e. overflowing with tension.

However, when the lack of festive spirit causes youngster Max (Emjay Anthony) to lose his Christmas cheer, the family unwittingly find themselves under attack by the dreaded Krampus.

Not so well known in the US and UK as he is in parts of Europe, legend tells us Krampus is the somewhat less friendly equivalent of Santa Claus - but where old Saint Nick rewards those who’ve been good, Krampus is there to punish the bad.

Boasting creature work from those esteemed FX masters at Weta (best known for the ‘Lord of the Rings’ and ‘Hobbit’ movies), ‘Krampus’ looks set to give us a distinctive new movie monster - and, we can but hope, another great alternative Christmas movie to rank alongside the likes of ‘Gremlins’ and ‘Batman Returns.’

The naughty and nice alike can see ‘Krampus’ in cinemas from 4 December.
