Two fan-favorite characters, Korg and Groot, were covertly killed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Marvel’s What If…? discreetly implies. The second episode of What If…? rewrites the MCU timeline. T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) becomes Star-Lord after the Ravagers accidentally kidnap him instead of Peter Quill in this episode (voiced by Brian T. Delaney). The Star-Lord of T’Challa then goes on to spread goodwill across the galaxy. The Ravagers transform from criminals to heroes who battle for those in need. In addition, Thanos (Josh Brolin) undergoes a total transformation. The Mad Titan’s lethal finger snap is never used. Instead, he joins the Ravagers and T’Challa after understanding that his plan in Avengers: Infinity War would be more harmful than beneficial.

The MCU, on the other hand, rapidly substitutes Thanos’ villainy. The Collector (Benicio del Toro) steps in to fill the void left by the Mad Titan, becoming the master of the galaxy’s underworld. The Collector’s massive collection in earlier Marvel films was astounding, but What If…? surpasses it. The Collector uses his criminal clout to increase his collection, murdering him indiscriminately to achieve his goals. He also obtains the Embers of Genesis, which T’Challa and the Ravagers want to take to aid in the feeding of the galaxy.

Korg and Groot Deaths

In the second episode of Marvel’s What If…?, two well-known characters were shown to be dead. T’Challa’s Star-Lord faces up against the Collector, who flaunts his prizes while fighting. During the fight, he first utilizes a rock-like weapon on his arm, which he claims he hacked off of a ‘terribly chatty Kronan’. It appears from the dialogue that he got it from Korg (Taika Waititi). In addition, a silhouette of Groot (Vin Diesel) appears in the backdrop among the Collector’s collection during T’Challa’s struggle.

The events appear to prove Korg and Groot’s deaths. The end of Korg is more certain. With Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok character serving as the MCU’s principle “chatty Kronan,” it’s clear where the Collector got his rock arm. The silhouette of Groot is more uncertain. After all, the Collector’s collection does not contain all of the characters that are no longer alive. Groot may be still alive if the Collector has him. In Guardians of the Galaxy, however, the Collector expresses an interest in Groot and promises to collect him upon his death. With that quote, things don’t appear to be looking up.

Though T’Challa’s Star-Lord spreads benevolence throughout the galaxy, the parallel MCU reality could reveal more ominous revelations. The Collector also holds Captain America’s shield and Thor’s hammer, in addition to Korg’s arm. Because those personalities were unlikely to willingly hand over those artifacts, the Collector may have killed or imprisoned them as well. When the Ravagers abandon Quill on Earth, Ego (Kurt Russell), Quill’s Celestial father, swoops in, seeking to utilize his son’s Celestial DNA to help him take over the galaxy. T’Challa’s Star-Lord brings huge changes to the MCU, but not all of them are positive.
