Popular South Korean star Kim Woo-bin has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, reports said on Wednesday (24 May).

The artiste’s management company, SidusHQ, said Kim Woo-bin had gone for a health check-up after not feeling good during his recent work schedule.

SidusHQ said the 27-year-old model and actor was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer at the hospital.

Nasopharyngeal cancer affects the nasopharynx, which is the space situated behind the nose and below the brain.

“Luckily, it is not too late for him to start treatment, and Woo-bin has already begun receiving medication as well as radiation treatment. We are still having discussions on what to do with his pre-arranged schedules, and we ask for your kind understanding as he focuses on recovering his health,” his company said.

Kim Woo-bin was recently cast in the movie “Docheong (도청)“, a film by CJ Entertainment. According to a representative, the movie is expected to delay production until Kim makes a full recovery.

According to the Singapore Cancer Society, nasopharyngeal cancer usually affects adults aged between 35 and 55 years old, and is more common in males.

Kim Woo-bin starred opposite popular singer-actress Suzy in the 2016 Korean drama, “Uncontrollably Fond”, where the character he played, Joon-young, also gets stricken with cancer.

Kim Woo-bin was last in Singapore in January to promote the movie “Master” with co-star Gang Dong-won.
