Korea Box Office: ‘Tunnel’ Stays on Top for Third Weekend

Showbox’s “Tunnel” stayed on top of the Korean box office for the third consecutive week. The Korean disaster drama earned $5 million from 665,000 admissions between Friday and Sunday, extending its total to $45.8 million after three weekends on release.

Opening on Wednesday, Warner Bros.’ “Lights Out” landed in second. It scored $3.91 million over its first five days in cinemas.

Korean historical melodrama “The Last Princess” slipped to third. The Lotte release earned $1.7 million between Friday and Sunday for a total of $37.8 million after four weekends.

Distributed by UPI Korea, Sony’s “Ghostbusters” opened with $1.84 million between Thursday and Sunday. Representing a week-on-week drop of 66%, “Star Trek Beyond” slipped to fifth. “Beyond” earned $1.39 million between Friday and Sunday for a total of $8.1 million after two weekends. “The Secret Life of Pets” took sixth, earning $780,000 between Friday and Sunday for a total of $16.8 million after four weekends.

Local blockbusters “Train to Busan” and “Operation Chromite” took seventh and eighth. “Train” has accumulated $82.6 million after six weeks on release. “Chromite” has earned a total of $48.8 million after five weeks.
