‘King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword’ Trailer: The Land And The King Are Bros – Comic-Con
Charlie Hunnam made his first post-Sons Of Anarchy Comic-Con appearance today during Warner Bros’ huge Hall H presentation to give attendees the first look at his Guy Ritchie-directed King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword. Describing his version of the Once and Future King, Hunnam says “he’s definitely not a pimp… he just lives in a brothel.” That sounds about right.
Dripping, for better and maybe for worse, with Ritchie’s trademark flourishes, the film is a weirdly modernist take on Britain’s foundational myth, particularly the fact that King Arthur apparently wakes up every morning and goes to boot camp workout sessions. Imagine Game Of Thrones filtered through Green Street Hooligans and you’re somewhere close to what appears to be the tone. Gritty and kinetic, at least according to the trailer, the film makes Medieval England look an awful lot like a cross between the Victorian Era and the 1960s combined — call it Swinging Londinium.
It’s been a while since someone had anything new to add to the Arthurian myth, but is a bro-y, modern action movie gloss the right take? Maybe, maybe not, but at least this doesn’t look boring. We’ll find out how well this comes together when the film that also stars Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey, Jude Law, Djimon Hounsou, and Eric Bana hits theaters on March 24, 2017.
