King Arthur is getting a “police procedural” reboot, and we’ve got a few hundred questions

After the success of the often overlooked but generally delightful Sleepy Hollow (although we’ve got like four hundred different bones to pick with the writers for writing off badass lady cop Abbie Mills), Fox seems to have decided “weird police procedural centered around classic literature” is a genre they’re super into.

And like, we’re not not into that (okay, we’re very into that, you caught us) but everything about the announcement that Fox has ordered a script for a King Arthur police procedural leaves us with a lot of questions. Yes. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox has ordered Camelot, which will “[reimagine] the legendary stories of King Arthur in a police procedural.”

Here’s the description for the series, which is something you need to know:

“When an ancient magic reawakens in modern-day Manhattan, a graffiti artist named Art must team with his best friend Lance and his ex, Gwen — an idealistic cop — in order to realize his destiny and fight back against the evil forces that threaten the city.”

So, first of all, as we sort of mentioned indirectly but are now going to mention directly… it’s Sleepy Hollow. Set in Manhattan.

Second of all, a graffiti artist named… Art? An artist named Art? Art is artistic? Art makes art? GUYS, COME ON.

Third, THR states that the idea was acquired in a “competitive situation“, which means other networks and/or studios were trying to place their bets on this horse.

Not sure what the decision making process was here, but we’re going to go ahead and point out what another King Arthur adaptation already did…

But setting our quite literally unending list of questions aside (is King Arthur upset about being American? How does he feel about the Revolutionary War? And has anybody asked Merlin’s own King Arthur, Bradley James, how he feels about this? What about Once Upon A Time’s King Arthur, Liam Garrigan? We need answers!) if Sleepy Hollow‘s anything to judge by, Camelot could be a lot of fun.

And we’re definitely looking forward to getting some answers.
