Kim Yong-hwa wants to film "Along with the Gods 3 & 4" back-to-back

10 Dec – South Korean director Kim Yong-hwa recently revealed that he has plans to direct the third and fourth instalment of his hit franchise, "Along with the Gods" back-to-back and release it in a couple of years' time.

As reported on Oriental Daily, the filmmaker, who spoke of his plans at the International Film Festival & Awards Macao (IFFAM), shared that he would like to finish the series soon and film it like he did with the first two - with one succeeding the other.

"At present, the company has a lot of projects. We plan to shoot "The Moon" first, and then "Along with the Gods" in 2022. We will also shoot the third and fourth movies of the [aforementioned] franchise at the same time. The characters from the first and second movies will return, but I want to add new stories to the third and fourth films," he said.

When asked if the said franchise was a personal project for him, Kim said that although it was based on an online comic, he also dedicated the first two movies to his parents.

"The first movie was a tribute to my mother, and the second one my father," he added.

The first film, "Along With The Gods: The Two Worlds", which was released in 2017, became a box office smash grossing more than USD 100 million, while its sequel, "Along With The Gods: The Last 49 Days" that was released the year after made more than USD 90 million. The two films co-stars Ha Jung-woo, Ju Ji-hood, and Kim Hyang-gi as three grim reapers guiding souls to the underworld trials.
