KFC is trialling meatless nuggets and wings in a bid to keep up with the demand for more vegan fast-food options.

There’s a catch, though: the trial is taking place for one day only.

So, if you happen to be in Atlanta, US, today you might just get to try the elusive range.

It has joined forces with Beyond Meat, a vegan food maker, to create this limited run of vegan food.

KFC isn’t the first fast-food chain to experiment with vegan food. Subway recently launched a vegan menu, and Burger King launched a meat-free Whopper burger earlier this year.

KFC said it was the first fast-food restaurant to offer a vegan take on the chicken burger. It was trialled in the UK earlier this year.

KFC will collate the feedback on the meatless wings and nuggets and decide whether or not to roll them out across the rest of the US.

*Whispers* and the UK please.

The chain tweeted about its collaboration with Beyond Meat - which saw Beyond Meat stocks rise by 5% - yesterday.

It said: “It’s Kentucky Fried Chicken but it’s made with @BeyondMeat. It’s confusing, but it’s also delicious. Feast on these Kentucky Fried miracles tomorrow while they last at KFC in Atlanta, Georgia.”

People were quick to comment on KFC’s revelation.

“This is incredible — I really hope to see this nationwide!” One said.

A lot of KFC fans were disappointed to see such a short run of the sought-after vegan menu.

One environmental activist said: “We need MORE DAYS and MORE LOCATIONS for this test run please! Or better yet, just add the vegan options permanently to your menus.”

The news didn’t come without its fair share of criticism, though. One tweeter described the vegan option as “fake food” and compared it to “eating air”.

Some spoke of boycotting KFC for catering to the growing vegan community.

One tweet summed up the thread nicely by saying: “Non-vegans: eating meat is my choice, please respect it Vegans: yay KFC vegan nuggets Non-vegan: I’m no longer gonna go to KFC because vegans have a choice on the menu.”
