Kevin James Producing CBS Comedy Project Starring Comedian Gina Brillon

Kevin James was a stand-up comedian with few credits when CBS made him a sitcom star with The King of Queens, following his guest stint on the network’s Everybody Loves Raymond. Now he is giving an opportunity to another comedian, Gina Brillon, who recently made a guest appearance on his new CBS sitcom, Kevin Can Wait.

CBS is developing an untitled multi-camera comedy starring Brillon and executive produced by James. Sony Pictures TV, where James’ Hey Eddie Prods. has a first-look deal, is the studio. James and his producing partner Jeff Sussman recently hired former TBS development executive Nina Howie, who will serve as a co-executive producer on the Brillon comedy.

Written by sitcom veteran Adam Barr (Will & Grace, The New Adventures of Old Christine), the project is inspired by Brillon’s stand-up comedy. It centers on Gina (Brillon). When her seven-year relationship suddenly ends, she moves from the Bronx to Manhattan to pursue her dreams.

Barr, James and Sussman are executive producing with Judy Marmel and Chris Mazilli. Brillon is a producer.

Howie, who will serve as a development executive at Hey Eddie Prods., most recently partnered with Raymond creator Phil Rosenthal, under his deal at Warner Brothers TV.

Brillon is the first Latina winner of NBC’s Stand up for Diversity Showcase, in 2012. Here is a video of her act:
