Kevin Hart's friend Rebecca Broxterman is 'grateful and blessed' to be alive after car crash

Rebecca Broxterman, a friend of Kevin Hart and a passenger in the Malibu car crash involving the comedian, wrote on Instagram that she is “grateful and blessed.”

“...September 1, 2019 was the scariest day of my life,” Broxterman wrote in a Thursday post, attaching photos of her reported fiancée, Jared S. Black — who was reportedly driving Hart’s car with passengers Broxterman and the comedian on Sept. 1— in the hospital. “God was definitely watching over us that night and protecting us. Thank you, Lord, for wrapping your loving arms around us in our time of need.”

Broxterman, reportedly a personal trainer to Hart’s wife Eniko Hart, also posted photos of Hart’s destroyed 1970 Plymouth Barracuda and a video of herself hobbling around on crutches.

Posting a note she had written 10 days after the car accident, Broxterman wrote, “First of all, I want you all to know that ultimately, all 3 of us in the car wreck are alive and recovering and that’s what matters the most! It is going to be a long road to recovery but we have the best support team. The scariest part for Jared and I was being separated after both being airlifted to UCLA. Just a lot of rest and physical therapy ahead for both of us!”

Broxterman expressed gratitude for Black writing, “Jared is the strongest person I know and he will get through this. We still have each other and that’s what matters the most. This could’ve had a completely different outcome and we feel so blessed that it was not any worse...”

An update written on Thursday revealed the couple’s health — and relationship — is on a good track. “Feeling so much better! We are both healing!” wrote Broxterman. “Jared is well on the road to recovery after having major back surgery! We are doing physical therapy together a few times a week! Our relationship is stronger than ever and we have so much to be thankful for! Life can take you in many different directions and we are just so happy to be here for it all!...”

Broxterman added, “I love you so much and am thankful that we are doing life together!”

In October, according to TMZ, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) determined that the driver of Hart’s car had caused the accident after gunning the engine, losing control of the vehicle, and crashing through wooden fencing and into an embankment. Both Broxterman and Black, the latter of whom was airlifted to UCLA Medical Center, were found pinned in the car; however, Broxterman was mostly unharmed and Hart left the scene with his security team. It was suggested that none of the occupants were wearing seatbelts since the vintage car reportedly did not have safety harnesses.

That month, Hart, 40, told Yahoo Entertainment via his attorney: "I have nothing but love for Jared and wish him and Rebecca a speedy recovery." The comedian reportedly sustained back injuries and had surgery.

Recently, per E! News, Hart said the accident changed him at the core. "For me, I'm a different version of myself… This ain't got nothing to do about going to church… It's not spiritual — spiritual is the wrong word. You're more present," he remarked on his SiriusXM radio show, “Straight From The Hart.” "More aware… It's all a joke until you get smacked with that real life reality."

Hart also called his recovery “humbling,” adding, "I could not f***ing move. I could not wipe my ass… I literally I couldn't do none of that."

“It makes you realize…you really are helpless,” he said. “There was nothing I could do."

On Sunday, Hart accepted the Comedy Act of 2019 award during the E! People’s Choice Awards in Santa Monica, Calif, thanking his wife and three children, ages 2, 12, and 14.

“First and foremost, thank God, because I definitely don’t have to be here,” he said, adding, “Being that I am, it makes me appreciate life even more. It makes me appreciate the things that really matter: family. I want to thank my wife, my kids, who really stepped up to the plate for me.”
