Kerry Washington uses $5 shampoo to protect her curls

Kerry Washington swears the key to protecting her curls is a very affordable shampoo.

The Scandal star’s stunning hair isn’t impacted by the heat and humidity in Los Angeles, as she makes sure she keeps her curls in tip-top shape by using a product from her local pharmacy.

“I'm a big experimenter. I like a lot of stuff. I like to try new stuff all the time, but Neutrogena has a clarifying shampoo that I really love, because I tend to use a lot of different leave-ins. So, it’s great when I need to press the reset button. We have a saltwater pool, but whether it's ocean or chlorine or whatever, I stick to that," she told InStyle about the Anti-Residue Shampoo, which currently retails for $5.24 (£4.20).

The 42-year-old, who has been a brand ambassador for Neutrogena since 2013, told the magazine it was easier for her to stick with curly hair during the hotter months, as she ends up in her saltwater pool with her two children – Isabelle and Caleb – on a daily basis.

“It's so much easier to just go with the curl. I swim a lot in the summer, so sometimes I'll blow it out and then still do like a braid to keep from fussing with it too much, but because I swim a lot in the summer, I tend to do curly more," Kerry shared. “Even when I do have my hair blown out, if I come home and my kids are in the pool, I can't resist.”
