Florals for fall? Actually groundbreaking. That must have been Kerry Washington’s mindset when she attended the GLSEN Respect Awards. The Scandal star wore shades of red, blue, purple, and yellow to receive her Inspiration Award at the Los Angeles ceremony. Olivia Pope would never be so bold with her style…but Kerry would.

Kerry didn’t just show her support for the LGBTQ community — she wore her pride.

Pretty in pink and blue and red and…

We love the floral power suit. But doesn’t it look a bit familiar? So familiar you just can’t put your finger on it.

Totally reminiscent of a desktop background, no?

Albeit Kerry’s look is way more chic and expensive (hello, Roberto Cavalli). We love her style, which skews classic with a bit of edge. Because seriously, who can pull off a head-to-toe floral look with such ease?

Her matching Cavalli suit is a timeless cut, but the V-neck of the blazer adds some subtle sex appeal. With such a bold print, Kerry’s accessories were limited to thin gold hoop earrings and a fire engine-red satin clutch from The Row.

But can we talk about her makeup? Specifically that dramatic cobalt blue liner?

Cat woman:

While other stars would have shied away from a colorful eye or lip, Kerry picked up the shades of blue from her suit and translated them to a thick winged liner.

But the night wasn’t just about her red carpet style. Kerry attended the event that highlights the efforts of those who work on behalf of LGBTQ+ youth. And she didn’t hold back when addressing the current political climate.

“We’ve gone from a White House lit in all the colors of pride to a White House that literally preaches division and discrimination. And so sometimes I worry because the stakes are high and fear is rampant.”

She followed up by letting the youth in attendance know they’re the future leaders, and must always fight for what’s right.

As Kerry demonstrated, embracing all shades of the rainbow is always in style.
