Kelly Brook has long been open about how her fluctuating bodyweight has impacted on her mind.

Now, the 40-year-old star – who started modelling after winning a beauty competition when she was 16 – has revealed how her mental health was at its worst when she was at her slimmest.

Speaking to The Sun’s Fabulous magazine, she said: “I’m a size 10 around my waist but a size 12 around my boobs and bum.

“That’s my healthy, happy size. Some of the skinniest times in my life have been my most miserable.

“When I lost my dad in 2007 I was 8 1/2st. I would not want to be in that place again.”

The Heart radio show host – who has featured in the top 10 of FHM's 100 Sexiest Women 10 times - added that she has grown more body confident with age.

She said: “You don’t care if your bum looks big – you just want to be comfortable and stylish.

“I want to look nice, feel good and be the best version of myself, but I don’t want to look like a 20-year-old, I want to look like a good 40-year-old.”

Earlier this year, Brook admitted in an interview that she didn’t feel “healthy or beautiful” at size 16, but said that after dropping two dress sizes she feels “sexy” again.

Speaking to Hello!, she said: “I crept up to a size 16. When my jeans started to feel tight I thought they'd shrunk in the wash.

“I definitely didn't feel my healthiest or most beautiful, and I wanted to feel good again.”

However, the model said her 32-year-old boyfriend, Jeremy Parisi, is happy with the way she looks.

Brook said: “He loves me whatever my size. He didn't even notice I'd gained weight. He doesn't care about things like that.

“He just likes that I sit down and enjoy eating with him. I'm not one of those girls who pushes a salad around her plate.”

One of the experiences that encouraged her to slim down was when photographers told her to “breathe in” as she posed on the red carpet.

She recalled: “Well, I'm glad they told me! They actually thought they were doing me a favour, but yeah, it was a bit of a shock.”
