Kearen Pang wins Best Director in Nice

23 May - Kearen Pang has won the award for Best Director of a Foreign Language Feature Film at the 2017 Nice International Filmmaker Festival of World Cinema for her work on "29+1".

As reported on Mingpao, Kearen, who attended the event alongside lead star Joyce Cheng, shared that the award came as a surprise because she didn't expect to win at all.

"To have the movie being nominated in four categories is already a great honour for me. Winning was not in my mind at all," she said.

The movie was also nominated for Best Original Drama, Best Foreign Language Film, and Best Supporting Actress for Joyce. However the movie lost in all the aforementioned categories.

Speaking to the media after the event, Joyce said that she is honoured to be nominated even if she didn't win.

"I am just touched to be able to witness director Kearen's victory moment," she said.

Kearen later shared a photo from the event on Instagram, and wrote, "Joyful moments to be remembered. Thankful to have you all beside me or across the miles to share."

Prior to the movie adaptation, "29+1" was a one-woman stage play written and performed by Kearen.
