Is Keanu Reeves set to join the 'Fast & Furious' universe?

The Fast & Furious franchise is poised to unleash the first in what will be a number of spin-off movies with Hobbs & Shaw, due out this summer.

But it may also be welcoming a new name into the fold… Keanu Reeves.

Fresh from revitalising his action movie credentials with the John Wick series, ThatHashTagShow is reporting that Reeves’ is not only involved in Hobbs & Shaw, but has ‘a significant’ role to play.

There are perhaps some spoilers ahead for the keener fans of the franchise…

It’s said that, like Charlize Theron’s character Cipher in the F&F movies, there will be an over-arching villain behind the scenes in Hobbs & Shaw, and potentially any further sequels in the spin-off series.

While Idris Elba is playing Brixton Lore, a former MI6 agent gone rogue – and genetically enhanced – it’s being said that Reeves will be the man behind it all pulling the strings.

The show’s source claims that Reeves’s character won’t be revealed until late on in the movie, or even potentially in a post-credits sequence, which would then make way for a sequel in which Reeves would have more involvement.

This all remains unconfirmed rumour for now, but it would certainly be a treat to see Reeves in a villainous role.

Hobbs & Shaw will see Dwayne Johnson’s agent Luke Hobbs making an unlikely alliance with Jason Statham’s Special Forces Op-turned-mercenary Deckard Shaw to foil Lore’s terrorist plans.

Also starring Vanessa Kirkby, Helen Mirren and Eddie Marsan, it’s due out on August 2.
