Katie Holmes will be starring the movie adaption of "The Secret" .
10 Aug – Katie Holmes has been chosen to star in "The Secret", based on the bestselling self-help book by Rhonda Byrne.
Announced today by Covert Media's CEO Paul Hanson, the feature film will be directed by "Hitch" and "Sweet Home Alabama" moviemaker Andy Tennant, with screenplay by NBC's hit drama "This Is Us" writer, Bekah Brunstetter, with Tennant's participation alongside "Ever After: Cinderella Story's" Rick Parks.
The movie is said to be inspired by its same-titled book rather than be a straight adaptation. Centering on a hardworking widow with three children, the movie comes into place when she hires a handyman to fix her house during a terrible storm. As the handyman grows closer to the family, he shares his philosophy of believing in the power of the universe to deliver what the heart desires, but the widow later discovers his secret connection to her past.
"Our filmmakers have created a compelling family love story that embodies the principles of "The Secret" Cort said in a statement while intending to make the film "as funny, emotional and endearing as its message is hopeful."
Its book writer, Rhonda Bryne also expresses her excitement on the movie adaptation while hoping that it will continues the book's legacy that changes millions of life.
"The Secret" was actually based on a 2006 documentary of the same name.
Published in 2006, "The Secret" has sold over 30 million copies worldwide, been translated into 50 different languages and remained on the New York Times bestseller list for 190 weeks.
A film on the book had been done previously by an Australian-based production company, but it never got a theatrical release and went straight to DVD.
A release date, production timeline and further casting details have yet to be announced.
