Katie Couric Breaks Her Silence on Matt Lauer Sexual Harassment Claims

Katie Couric breaks her silence on Matt Lauer's sexual harassment claims.

The 60-year-old journalist served as Lauer's Today show co-host from 1997 to 2006, had yet to speak out after her former colleague was fired last week for "inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace."

On Friday, an Instagram user commented on Couric's most recent picture of her and her daughter, Carrie, asking why she hadn't said anything about the claims against Lauer.

Couric replied, writing, "It's incredibly upsetting and I will say something when I'm ready to. Thanks for your interest."

Couric and Lauer had a close relationship while working together. Earlier this year, Lauer called Couric his "soulmate" in an interview with TV Insider.

"Savannah gets it," Lauer said. "Meredith Vieira warms my heart. Katie Couric is kind of my soulmate. We make each other laugh."

Meanwhile, during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live in 2012 Couric revealed that Lauer "pinches me on the a** a lot" while playing a game of "Plead the Fifth."

Earlier this week, Savannah Guthrie also spoke out about Lauer's firing.

"So much has changed," Guthrie told Tarana Burke and Alyssa Milano during the Today show. "It has touched every industry, obviously, has hit very close to home here with the firing of Matt Lauer."

Last week, a source told ET that Guthrie was "affected the most" by the news of Lauer's firing.

"She’s not herself. She’s visibly shaken," the source said, explaining that one day after announcing the shocking news on-air, Guthrie appeared "sad, in deep thought and preoccupied" off-camera.

"She is doing her best to stay upbeat and jolly on-air."
