Kathryn Bernardo to be the face of COMELEC's new campaign
19 Feb – The Philippines' Commission on Elections (COMELEC) recently announced that it has appointed actress Kathryn Bernardo as the face of their campaign to encourage more women to run in the coming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.
As reported on Push, COMELEC Gender and Development Committee Commissioner Rowena Guanzon stated that Bernardo is an icon among young people, especially young women, and that her optimism can inspire more women to run for public post.
"They admire and follow her not only as an actor but as a role model," Guanzon added.
According to the Commission, there are more female registered voters than men, even though there are more male elected officials. It hopes that more women will run for the sake of gender equality.
Bernardo will be appearing in a video in April, calling on women to file their Certificate of Candidacy.
