Kate Winslet was excited to show off her body confidence in her near-naked love scenes in Ammonite.
The 44-year-old actress plays Victorian-era palaeontologist Mary Anning in the upcoming romantic drama, who embarks on an affair with a married woman, portrayed by Saoirse Ronan.
The mother-of-three had no problem stripping off for the scenes, and wanted her self-confidence to inspire other women to let go of their body hang ups.
"I'm nearly 45, and Saoirse is almost half my age. And to have an opportunity to be my real 40-something self, post-children, you know? Women aren't really having the courage to do that (onscreen)," Kate told The Hollywood Reporter.
"I was just excited to say, 'This is what it is, peeps. This is how I am now, and it's very much not the body I had 20 years ago.'"
Instead of undertaking a new fitness and diet regime with a personal trainer to prepare her for nude scenes, the two-time Academy Award winner decided to put on weight instead.
"There is a grit to her, there's a weight to her," Kate shared. "I changed up my exercise a little bit. I made sure that I didn't lose weight - which I do a lot, actually, on films.
"I hate to talk about weight, but I only say it in the context of, it was a conscious effort on my part to really make sure that I didn't shrink or change myself for the sake of being naked. I did the opposite."
Ammonite, directed by Francis Lee, will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada on 11 September.
