Who needs a birthday suit when you can wear a birthday hat?

On Sunday, just a day ahead of turning 35, the Duchess of Cambridge attended church with her family (the queen, who’s been fighting a “heavy cold,” included) wearing a standout fur topper.

At St. Mary Magdalene Church, located on the royal family’s Sandringham estate, Kate Middleton paired a coat from her closet, a green $1,895 Sportmax long belted piece made from virgin wool, with a $135 silk chiffon scarf from LK Bennett and $500 Emmy London “Valerie” heels to match her jacket.

The best part of the look? A big fur hat. The $205 accessory made an appearance on the royal’s head for the first time. From British company Lacorine, the Qori alpaca fur hat is described as being “divinely soft, fluffy and warm” and made from natural herd loss in the bitter Peruvian winters and handmade using Fair Trade principles.

While the duchess’s hat was gray, it’s available in seven different colors (including hot pink!), and her sister, Pippa Middleton, has one of them.

In 2013, the mother-of-two’s younger sibling attended a horse race in a yellow wool coat and alpaca hat in brown.

According to reports, the Middleton family and some royals came together at the queen’s Norfolk home for a party in honor of Kate’s birthday over the weekend.
