Duchess of Cambridge tried to plait Princess Charlotte's hair - but things didn't go 'very well'

The Duchess of Cambridge shared a touching moment with a young fan during an day of engagements in Cumbria on Tuesday.

The 37-year-old was supporting the local rural community with husband, Prince William, when she made a very sweet confession related to the couple’s four-year-old daughter, Princess Charlotte.

“I love your plaits,” she told a young girl who had lined up to offer the royals flowers.

“I tried to do a plait on Charlotte this morning she continued, adding, “and it didn’t really work very well”.

Kate herself opted for a sleek ponytail for the royal outing, that complemented her English country look.

The mother-of-three wore an olive green jacket, black skinny jeans and a pair of hiking boots for the walkabout.

The royal couple greeted local spectators, and as they officially tweeted, “celebrated the work of local heroes, volunteers and those supporting the rural community in Cumbria”.

One pup was named Harry, after her brother-in-law, Prince Harry.

The seven-month-old dog owned by mental health advocate Kerry Irving is being trained as a therapy dog.
