Back in May 2019, the Duchess of Cambridge stepped out in a blue polka dot dress and we’ve been lusting after it ever since.
The royal style icon wore the dress, from designer Alessandra Rich, to visit the Bletchley Park D-Day Exhibition, which marked the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
Though the dress doesn’t come cheap - £1,570 to be precise - it still sold out pretty sharpish after its regal outing, and set our sights firmly back on the dotty trend as a viable fashion choice.
Now, almost a year on, the polka-dot midi dress has returned to luxury shopping website Net-A-Porter, but it’s had a bit of a makeover.
Rather than the blue version we saw on the Duchess of Cambridge, this latest version is a demure black hue and features fringing detail on the collar.
Part of the '80s-themed Spring '20 collection on the website, the dress is cut from silk crepe de chine with puffy sleeves and has a sequin-embellished collar and cuffs.

It’s the perfect party dress, as well as brilliant for the office, and can be dressed up with heels for a wedding or glamorous event too.
However, not everyone (us included) can stretch the budget enough to add this gorgeous piece to their shopping cart so we’ve found five alternatives that pick up on the polka dot vibe but not the price tag.
