Duchess of Cambridge 'just winging it' when it comes to motherhood

The Duchess of Cambridge admits she is ‘just winging it’ when it comes to motherhood, a royal commentator reveals.

Omid Scobie, who has covered the royal beat for the likes of ‘Good Morning America’, ABC and Harper’s Bazaar for the past eight years, has had the opportunity to speak to the Duchess of Cambridge outside of engagements over the years.

Speaking on Yahoo UK’s ‘The Royal Box,’ he says: “I think what struck me the most was how normal she was.”

Omid asked the Duchess about balancing parenthood with her royal duties, recalling: “I said to her ‘How do you do it? There’s so much work and it looks like it comes so naturally to you.’

“She said ‘I’m literally making it up as I go along.’ But for her and for William, she said ‘We’re just sort of winging it.’”

For nearly the past six years, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been juggling parenthood with their royal duties.

Kate, 37, gave birth to her first child Prince George in July 2013, followed by Princess Charlotte in May 2015 and Prince Louis in April 2018.

Kate’s focuses within her charity work are on early years intervention, child development and postpartum health, and she has opened about her own experiences.

At an engagement with Family Action earlier this year, she spoke about the struggles of motherhood: “It’s so hard. You get a lot of support with the baby as a mother particularly in the early days, but after the age of one it falls away. After that, there isn’t a huge amount — lots of books to read.”

She added: “Everybody experiences the same struggle.”

Last week, Kensington Palace released new photos and footage of the Cambridges as a family of five visiting Kate’s garden she co-designed for the Chelsea Flower Show.

The palace also confirmed that four-year-old Charlotte will be joining her big brother George, five, at the same school Thomas’s in Battersea in September.
