What Kate and Meghan's body language says about their rumoured rift

After being dubbed the ‘royal fab four’ at the beginning of 2018, reports of an alleged rift between the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex emerged towards the end last year.

Since then all of us royal fans have had our hawk eyes watching the every move of Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle when they have appeared out and about together, which hasn’t been that often lately.

However last week the royal foursome reunited last week to mark the 50-year anniversary of the investiture of the Prince of Wales, and more recently on Monday they came together for the Commonwealth Day celebrations in London.

So, what exactly does the body language of the fab four tell us about this supposed feud?

Body language expert Kirsty Milligan tells Yahoo Lifestyle, “The ‘Fab Four’ are definitely well versed in how to maintain a professional/regal presence in public.”

So much so, that if there is a feud going on behind-closed-doors, they know how to hide it.

“If there is a rift, they’re very practised in not allowing that to show,” she said. “We can usually see this in facial expressions and guarded or protective body movements that show discomfort.”

Analysing their behaviour at Buckingham Palace last week, she added, “What we can see of their facial expressions is very composed. This could certainly be masking many other feelings and emotions.

“We do see a very polished and practiced public appearance, but it’s what we don’t see that might be more telling.”

Also discussing their public appearance last week, body language expert Elly Johnson believes Meghan, 37, was actually more focussed where exactly she should be and what she should be doing.

“I believe Meghan is more focussed on figuring out exactly what she should do and when they should walk in, she is feeling a bit awkward, not having attended an event exactly like this before,” she explains.

She also notes the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are both “conscious not to lead the way into the room” knowing that there is an order that should be “respected”.
