Karl Urban Still Wants A Dredd Netflix Show

It looks as though ‘Dredd’ could still live on…

At least, if Karl Urban gets his own way.

During an interview with comicbook.com, the 44-year-old actor explained that he’d love to reprise the iconic comic book role… in his own Netflix show.

“I’ve gone on record saying that I would,” he said. “Absolutely.”

But is the audience still there?

‘Dredd’ was originally released back in 2012 and starred Karl Urban as the titular lawman, Judge Dredd. But while the film has since spawned a cult following, box office returns just weren’t good enough to justify a sequel.

In fact, the movie grossed just $41.5 million worldwide on a budget which is estimated to have reached up to $45 million.

Still, Karl urban thinks there are still plenty of fans to justify a Netflix series.

“I mean, what’s clear to me is that there is an audience demand to see more and if we can find a way to have a legitimate and worthy successor to Dredd, I’d love to be a part of it,” he said.

“You know, it would have to be something where we were focused on Dredd and coming to sort of understand the deeper inner workings of the character, otherwise there wouldn’t be much point doing it because it’s a huge challenge to play a character whose eyes you can’t see. We’ll see. I’m sure it will get made at some point. Whether it’s with me or not, I don’t know.”

Of course, the huge success of Marvel’s ‘Daredevil’ and ‘Jessica Jones’ has proven that there’s definitely a market for more adult-themed comic book adaptations… and Netflix is certainly receptive to taking on such projects.

Could ‘Dredd’ finally get the sequel it deserves?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but we really hope so.
