Karen Elson is grateful she met fellow model Erin O'Connor when she started doing fashion weeks.
The British supermodel rose to fame in the 1990s, when her red hair and chiselled cheekbones caught the attention of designers such as Jean-Paul Gaultier, Alexander McQueen, and Marc Jacobs.
Over the weekend, the 40-year-old shared a throwback picture which showed her at 18 years old at her first Milan Fashion Week and recalled how she was grateful she befriended Erin, 41, because their friendship made it so much easier to cope with the stress of the hectic show schedule.
"I was 18 in this photo backstage at Gucci with Tom Ford at the helm. It was my first show season in Milan and my friend @erinoconnor and I were inseparable," she wrote in the caption. "I thank my lucky stars that I met Erin, we were both Northern English girls we loved the same bands and understood each other’s background and cultural references. It was always easy with her.
"We laughed till cried and cried till we laughed, along with @maggierizer we kept each other sane even if we were all a little wild! Especially during fashion week as we all worked to the point of exhaustion sometimes barely sleeping a couple of hours from fitting to shows, we definitely all had some breakdowns during that time, but we all helped each other cope."
In the comments, Erin responded with, "So many things to say but love this (heart emoji) special memories," while fellow British supermodel Naomi Campbell recalled how Karen and Erin were "connected by the hip".
