Karaoke Manekineko closes all Singapore outlets but says 'it's not goodbye'
SINGAPORE — As singing at karaoke outlets remains banned amid a renewed tightening of COVID-19 restrictions as cases rise in Singapore again, Japanese karaoke chain Manekineko has announced that they will be closing all their outlets here – for the time being.
The management of Manekineko, which has several outlets around the island, said on its social media today, in endearing Japlish, "We are going to close down all of our outlets in Singapore on 5th of May 2021. Karaoke Manekineko would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude and thanks to all customers who give supports to us. It's not goodbye, it's until we meet again."
We take that to mean that all of Manekineko's outlets had stopped operating since 5 May, right after the government reduced the group size limit for social gatherings again.
Yahoo Lifestyle SEA has reached out to Manekineko to clarify whether the closure is permanent.
Manekineko is known for offering a buffet meal along with its karaoke bookings.
The news of its closure comes after another popular and home-grown karaoke chain, Teo Heng, had closed several outlets last year, and pivoted to hiring out its rooms as work and recreational spaces earlier this year.
