Kanye West Gives Taylor Swift a Shout Out in VMAs Speech

When it was revealed that Kanye West would be given four minutes to do whatever he wanted on the MTV Video Music Awards stage, the speculation immediately ran wild. And of course, everyone asked: Would he mentioned Taylor Swift?

And the answer is, yes, yes he did. Kind of.

In a rambling speech that touched on his controversial “Famous” music video, he explained, “We came over in the same boat, now we’re in the same bed.”

“People come up to me, like, ‘That’s right, tell Taylor!’ I’m like, ‘Bro, I love all y’all! That’s why I called her!'” he went on.

West, well, famously generated controversy when his “Famous” video featured himself, Kim Kardashian, Swift, Donald Trump, Amber Rose (“I see you, Amber,” West yelled on stage), Donald Trump, Ray J, Anna Wintour and more laying naked in bed together. In the song itself, West raps the lyrics, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that bitch famous.”

West said afterwards that Swift gave him permission to run the lyric. Swift’s camp fired back with a statement to the contrary, saying Swift warned him against going with that message. Recently, however, Kardashian released a video recording of West and Swift discussing the song.

After the speech, West unveiled the new music video for his song “Fade.”

It’s the second year in a row that West has taken the VMA stage. Last year, he declared he’d be running for president in 2020. Unfortunately, no campaign plans were revealed this year.
