Kaia Gerber felt "liberated" after getting her long hair chopped into a shaggy bob inspired by Kurt Cobain's signature hairstyle.
The 18-year-old model decided to get rid of her long, flowing brunette locks after completing a job, as she felt pressure to keep her hair in a certain style to help her career.
"For so long, I felt this pressure to have the long, pretty hair that everyone expects you to have," Gerber told Vogue Australia. "Then I asked myself who I was doing that for - I could cut my hair if I wanted to cut my hair. And I did."
She added that her muse for the new look was late rocker Cobain, the lead singer of '90s rock band Nirvana.
"I definitely feel more 'me'. It gave me more individuality. It's also just easier. I think every woman at least once in her life should feel the liberation of cutting her hair off. It felt very cleansing; it was actually a weight off my shoulders," the daughter of famed supermodel Cindy Crawford explained.
Gerber debuted her new look on the runway during Milan Fashion Week, as she walked for designers including Alberta Ferretti, Max Mara, and Prada.
The star insisted hairstylist Guido Palau work his magic on her locks and told him that if he didn't cut her hair, she would just go to a regular hair salon.
"I asked her if she wanted to save it for a show or an editorial, and she said, 'No, if you don't do it, I'm just going to get it done around the corner.' She had a very strong opinion about (what she wanted to do)," Palau told the magazine.
And Gerber teased the possibility of more transformative looks in the future.
"Every time I see Guido, I ask him to cut it more, just a little bit. It's so freeing and I love having it off my shoulders," she gushed.
