Justin Bieber Channels Marco Rubio, Harry Styles in Heeled Boots
With Marco Rubio long gone from the 2016 presidential race and Harry Styles off dressed in World War II fatigues, it was only a matter of time before some other dude picked up where they left off, taking over the coveted role of “famous guy who wears high-heeled boots with pointy toes.”
Justin Bieber, who’s been seen strutting his stuff ’round New York City the past few days wearing destroyed skinny jeans, a long black henley top, and a flannel vest, has claimed this title by finishing his look with a pair of classic Saint Laurent Chelsea boots with 1.6-inch stacked heels — retail value, $895.
Seasonal appropriateness aside — it’s been in the high 80s and 90s in NYC — his getup is a pretty slick, early fall look. I actually really like the fact that he (read: his stylist, Karla Welch) chose to incorporate the rocker-ish Chelseas with the pop star’s current grunge aesthetic, instead of trying to channel Styles’s mod-skinny jeans situation or Rubio’s mock neck sweater and dress pants look. (That last part was a joke.) He’s really making it work. I mean I wish I could afford those booties.
Of course, while Biebs may by the latest modern man to sport the height-boosting style, he’s in good historical company: King Louis XIV of France was practically the Carrie Bradshaw of the 17th century, and musicians like David Bowie and Prince made man-heels cool again in the 1970s and ’80s. Also Pee-wee Herman. Nothing puts a little extra pep in your step like a fine pair of big shoes.
