First Justice League trailer and poster arrive with a punch

After a few days of teasers, here at last is the first official trailer for ‘Justice League,’ the DC Extended Universe’s answer to ‘The Avengers.’

Okay, we have already had a look at the team in action thanks to the advance footage that was released at San Diego Comic Con last summer, but that was only ever intended as a sizzle reel to whet our appetites, whereas this is the main event. Well, the trailer for the main event.

As we would no doubt expect, it all looks pretty flashy. And they seem keen to promote a rock’n’roll vibe to proceedings, as while the SDCC preview played out to The White Stripes’ ‘Icky Thump,’ this one has the dulcet tones of Aerosmith covering ‘Come Together’ by The Beatles.

Guess that fits in with the ‘unite’ theme the marketing has hinged on so far, which is also prominent in the newly released poster below:

As well as giving us our first proper look at the team in action (including a curiously Iron Man-esque Cyborg, played by Ray Fisher), this trailer also gives us our first brief glimpses of some other new characters, including Amber Heard as Mera, and JK Simmons as Commissioner Gordon.

There’s also a quick glimpse of Amy Adams as Lois Lane – although, as necessitated by the ending of ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice,’ one rather notable absentee is Henry Cavill as Superman. Still, we think it’s safe to assume he’ll be showing up at some point.

In addition, we get our first look at some of the adversaries our heroes will go up against, who look to be somewhere between the Chitauri of ‘Avengers Assemble’ and the Wicked Witch of the West’s flying monkeys. Either way, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman appears to take a great deal of pleasure in destroying them, which proves fun to watch.

Indeed, the ‘fun’ aspect is again being pushed heavily here, after ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ not unreasonably took a great deal of flak for being far too downbeat and dour. Hopes are high that ‘Justice League’ will correct this, although this trailer also indicates that the overall aesthetic which director Zack Snyder brought to ‘Man of Steel’ and ‘Batman V Superman’ will still be maintained here.

‘Justice League’ opens on 17 November; we can surely expect another trailer or two before then.
