Jun Lana wins Best Director in Estonia for "Kalel, 15"

2 Dec – Jun Robles Lana has recently been awarded Best Director at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival 2019.

As reported on PEP, the filmmaker shared the good news on Twitter on 1 December with a photo of his accolade, writing, "Thank you [Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival] for this amazing recognition."

Lana won the said award for his film, "Kalel, 15", which revolves around the life of an HIV-positive teenager, played by young actor Elijah Canlas. The film also co-stars Jaclyn Jose and the late Eddie Garcia.

He also shared a tweet from the Estonian festival's official page about his victory, which read, "Working with a large cast of mostly very young actors he has made a film which feels deeply - rooted in the everyday lives of its characters. It's a passionate and concerned film about lives we never see in the West."
