Jumanji 2 casting news reveals plot twist which may explain THAT costume
Remember earlier this week, when Karen Gillan promised the “child-sized” outfit worn by her character in the upcoming ‘Jumanji’ sequel would make sense later? Well, this might sort-of explain it all.
Announcing the casting of Alex Wolff (below) in the in-production movie from director Jake Kasdan, The Hollywood Reporter revealed the 18-year old actor would portray “Dwayne Johnson’s human form.”
Before you start thinking it’s a bit harsh to describe The Rock as inhuman, THR explains further: “Wolff will play a boy named Spencer whose avatar in the game is being played by Johnson and named Dr. Smolder Bravestone.”
So there you have it: Johnson, Gillan, Jack Black and Kevin Hart will play ‘avatars’ in the Jumanji jungle world, who are controlled by the regular kids playing the game.
This is something of a reversal of the 1995 original based on Chris Van Allsburg’s book, in which the magical board game transforms the world around the players into the jungle, rather than transporting them into it.
Will this be a satisfactory answer for those who have blasted Gillan’s skimpy get-up as sexist? We’ll see - but we wouldn’t bet on it…
Gillan, Black and Hart’s earthbound counterparts will be portrayed by young actors Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner, and Ser'Darius Blain.
Currently shooting in Hawaii, this ‘Jumanji’ re-quel has been scripted by Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers, Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner.
It’s set to open on 28 July 2017.
