Julian Cheung and Anita Yuen share why their marriage works

19 Feb – It is rare to see a celebrity couple pushing through together for many years like Julian Cheung and Anita Yuen did, as they celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary recently.

According to Epoch Times, on 9 February, as they celebrated their wedding anniversary, Julian posted a photo of him and Anita from the back, holding their hands up the camera and captioned it, "Happy 17th anniversary."

Anita then shared the photo on Weibo and revealed lightheartedly that their supposed 'candlelight dinner" consisted of bak kut teh and preserved kumquat.

The couple, who got married in secret back in 2001 after meeting on the set of a movie in 1994, previously shared the five rules of marriage that enable them to stay loyal to each other for so long.

The rules are:

1. Mutual trust

In a past interview, Julian shared that he would always make sure that his wife knows his whereabouts when he's working.

"I want to give her a sense of security," he said.

2. Giving each other individual space

Anita once shared that she and Julian get along well because they give each other space.

"A man is like a kite. You should let him fly, but pull him back when appropriate," she said.

Julian also shared a similar view, saying that a couple should not always be tied to each other and interfere with each other's business.

3. Honesty

Both stars think that love only blooms when you have a mutual goodwill and good communication.

4. Respect

Said the couple, even when they have conflicting opinions, it is important for them to respect each other's views rather than force the other to accept.

5. Mutual care and encouragement

In order to progress as a couple, two people must always be supportive of each other.
