Jude Law is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe

His role is said to be a mentor to Brie Larson's titular character

"Captain Marvel" may soon have Jude Law as part of its expanding cast.

23 Nov – Jude Law is next in line to step into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as the English actor is currently in talks to play the male lead in "Captain Marvel".

If the deal goes through, the 44-year-old will find himself starring opposite Brie Larson in the upcoming superhero movie, Variety reports.

Details on his role are still sketchy but it was said that Law would be playing Doctor Walter Lawson, a mentor of sorts to Larson's titular character as she tries to cope with her newfound superhero abilities.

The movie, written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet ("Tomb Raider") based on the previous script by Meg LeFauve ("Inside Out") and Nicole Perlman ("Guardians of the Galaxy"), will see Larson as Air Force pilot Carol Danvers, who turned into Captain Marvel after her DNA gets fused with an alien's during an accident.

Kevin Feige is producing with Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck directing a cast that currently also includes Ben Mendelsohn in a villain role. Samuel L. Jackson is also expected to reprise his role as Nick Fury.

"Captain Marvel" is slated for release on 7 March 2019.

Before that, Law will be seen in 2018's "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald". His other upcoming movies include "The Rhythm Section", a spy thriller also starring Blake Lively, and the third "Sherlock Holmes" movie, currently still in development under Warner Bros.
