Joyce Cheng shares breakup story at concert

26 Oct - Joyce Cheng has been a role model of female empowerment since she decided that she would embrace her curves and do things her way, but according to the singer herself, she has had her share of weakness when it comes to men.

As reported on Oriental Daily, the singer, who held her first concert "Goddess Has a Problem" in Kowloon recently, shared a story about that moment of weakness with fans before performing her new song, "No Superficial Injuries".

"I know people think of me as a strong person, but I had once knelt in front of my boyfriend and begged him not to leave me. I completely let go of all dignity, but in the end, he still left me," she said.

Joyce said that the incident changed her emotionally.

"I felt like I had lost myself. I couldn't recognise my own reflection in the mirror. I never expected that I could end up like that," she said.

Joyce added that the new song is to help people shed all their negative energy and stop dwelling on breakups.

While Joyce never actually mentioned any names, many speculated that the ex-boyfriend in question to be fashion photographer Silas Lee. The couple broke up last year, and Joyce soon recorded the song.
