Joyce Bernal to replace Sheron Dayoc for Marawi project
25 Sep – Filmmaker Joyce Bernal will now replace Sheron Dayoc as the director of the upcoming Marawi project, "Children of the Lake".
As reported on ABS-CBN, the news was announced by Piolo Pascual's company, Spring Films on 24 September, following Dayoc's previous revelation that he has withdrawn from helming the movie as it "no longer reflective" of his beliefs as a Mindanao storyteller.
On the other hand, Pascual, who spoke about the matter recently, shared that the movie will continue despite Dayoc's departure.
"We've been pushing through with the project. We've been revising the scripts just to be able to cater to what we really want to showcase and what we really want to show. It's got nothing to do with our director," he said.
As for the delay in filming the movie, Pascual said that it was due to safety reasons, adding that there were still improvised explosive device (IEDs) in the area.
He also stressed that the movie will not be political, though admitted that the producers had creative differences with Dayoc prior to his leaving.
When asked when the movie will begin filming, Pascual said that it will start production in October, for a 2019 release.
